About Me

Growing up, there was never a question about what I was going to do. You could ask anyone. I was going to be a teacher. Coaching volleyball and teaching dance in high school lead to sixteen years of classroom teaching working with upper elementary and middle school students with dyslexia as a Language Arts Teacher and Reading Interventionist.

Early in my schooling, I recognized that I was intrigued with the diversities of the mind and the fascinating people that processed the world through a unique perspective. This led to extensive study into neurocognitive processes of how people truly learn and instructional approaches that effectively engage learners. I am a proponent of experiential learning opportunities where students reach beyond passive learning to collect real experience that changes their understanding of themselves, society, and the world. Though this path has taken me from teaching students to working with teachers, my heart will always be in the classroom with students.

In addition to my work with Inside the Diverse Mind, I am a Professional Learning Specialist and Professional Development Designer with Amplify Education. When I am not teaching, I love to hike with my family, read, garden, and travel. I also volunteer as a Seratoma Storyteller and provide recordings of storybooks that help adults with learning disabilities practice their reading.
